— Stretching a budget to buy food can be a problem in today’s economic conditions, but a Bella Vista church has a program to help everyone regardless of income.

People can buy groceries from Angel Food Ministry at the First United Methodist Church of Bella Vista on Boyce Drive, Director Marion Korns said. They don’t have to meet income guidelines, and they don’t have to fill out forms to show need. The food is available to everyone once a month.

Angel Food Ministries is a nonprofit, non-denominational organization dedicated to providing food relief and financial support to communities throughout the United States. It was founded to help families in 1994 when a plant in Monroe, Ga., closed. Now, Angel Food feeds over 500,000 families a month in 35 states, according to its Web site: www.angelfoodministries.com.

The Methodist Church location started offering Angel Food about a year ago. Since then seniors and young families have purchased the groceries, Korn said.

Angel Food provides a monthly menu of different bundles, or units, of food in several categories and people can buy just one or several units.

The main unit provides a box with enough to feed a family of four for a week. It contains an assortment of meats, vegetables and other foods for $30.

Six other units of meats, fruits and vegetables or frozen dinners are available, ranging in cost from $21 to $28 each.

FUMC isn’t alone in this venture. Bella Vista Baptist Church also offers an Angel Food program, Korn said.

To view the menus, visit the Angel Food Web site, or stop by the Methodist Church on Boyce Drive, across Arkansas 340 from Tanyard Creek.

Payment can be with cash, check or food stamps, and it must be made before an order can be placed. Checks should be written to Angel Food Ministry.

The November order is due Nov. 8. Buyers will pick up their orders at the church on Nov. 14.
