World Community Day is Nov. 6

LITTLE ROCK World Community Day, sponsored by Church Women United in Bella Vista, is slated for Friday, Nov. 6, at Highland Christian Church, 1500 Forest Hills Blvd.
The women of Judson American Baptist Church and Highland Christian Church will serve as co-hosts of the event.
Dessert will be served at 12:30 p.m., followed by a program at 1 p.m.
The program’s theme will be “Piecing Earth Together” with a focus on the environment and how we are called to work together to be good stewards of the gifts of the earth. The guest speaker will be from the Applied Sustainability Center at the University of Arkansas.
An in-kind offering will be collected for Restoration Ministries Inc., which includes Restoration Village and the Children’s Advocacy Center in Rogers.
Ongoing needs include the following:
• Laundry detergent, dryer sheets and fabric softener;
• Bathroom cleaning supplies, toilet paper and hand soap in pump bottles;
• Paper goods, such as plates, cups, napkins, bowls and paper towels;
• Kitchen cleaning supplies, trash bags, tomato sauce or paste, spaghetti sauce, Rotel, and lemonade mix; and
• $5 or $10 Walmart gift cards, which residents use for gas, prescription medicines and immediate clothing needs.
FUMC to host free organ concert Oct. 25 FROM STAFF REPORTS
Organist Janice Van Otterloo will be in concert Sunday, Oct. 25, at 3 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Bella Vista, 20 Boyce Drive.
The performance is part of the Wesley series. Admission is free.
Van Otterloo serves as organist at Raymore Christian Church in Raymore, Mo., and staff organist at the Community of Christ World Headquarters in Independence, Mo. She is also a private instructor in organ and harpsichord.
She graduated summa cum laude from Drake University with a bachelor of church music degree. Her studies included organ, piano and harpsichord.
She continued her training at Southern Methodist University in Dallas with a graduate assistantship in organ and harpsichord. She was awarded a master of music degree in organ and harpsichord performance, also summa cum laude.
Prior to moving to the Kansas City area, she was adjunct professor of organ and harpsichord at Edison Community College in Fort Myers and organist at Saint Hillary's Episcopal Church.
In the summer of 2006, she toured Europe with the Southwest Florida Symphony Chorus. She is in frequent demand as a guest organist and recitalist.
