Ladies’ Day Out on Nov. 17 will start with a visit to the Shiloh Museum of Ozark History in downtown Springdale. Lunch will be at The Crumpet Tea Room and Restaurant, located inside the Interiors Galleria. Meals will be ordered from the menu.
Carpoolers will meet at 9:30 a.m. in the Village Bible Evangelical Free Church parking lot, across from Bella Vista’s Town Center.

Beta Sigma Phi
The Laureate Alpha Mu Chapter was entertained recently at a “Hobo Party” in the home of President Pat King and her husband, Jim. Many “hobo” traditions were followed by members and their guests.
The October meeting was heldat the home of Beverly Wyker. New member Suzie Simmons brought a guest from Japan. This was the last meeting for members Mary Erickson and Vicki Karr, who are moving away from the Bella Vista area.
November’s meeting will be at the home of Beverly Bell.
* * * The Iota Alpha Chapter will celebrate Halloween by attending the Peel House Foundation’s Historical Ghost Walk and Dinner on Thursday, Oct. 29, in Bentonville. Led by a “grieving widow,” members and their spouses will tour the Bentonville Cemetery and hear stories about Victorian mourning and burial customs.
Following the cemetery walk, participants will tour the Peel House, followed by a spaghetti dinner.
Participants should meet at the cemetery, located in the 400 block of Southwest F Street,between 5:30 p.m. and 5:45 p.m. The tour begins at 6 p.m.

The Laureate Beta Alpha Chapter met Oct. 14 at the home of Sandy Ridout in Bella Vista. Coinciding with this year’s program theme, “Sharing our Passport to Adventure,” the hostess spoke on her adventures during the times she lived in Korea.
The Nov. 11 meeting will be held at the home of Glenda Heist. Bella Vista Homesteaders
The group will meet at 11 a.m. Nov. 3 at Concordia of Bella Vista. Lunch will be served at noon. The program will be on wreath designing. Members are reminded to bring personal items.

“Plus Lessons” will be given from 6:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Nov. 2 at Riordan Hall. Dancing will befrom 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. with Johnny Eubanks as the caller.

Corvettes of Bella Vista
The club will not meet in November, December or January. A membership drive will be held in April.
An overnight cruise to Little Rock is being planned for spring, along with some other outings. The trip to Little Rock will include a visit to the “World of the Pharaohs” exhibit at the Arkansas Arts Center and the William J. Clinton Presidential Library.

Bella Vista FlyTyers
The FlyTyers will gather at 10 a.m. Oct. 29 at Riordan Hall. Flip Putthoff will speak about the Buffalo River.
LIBRARY EVENTSEncore Books sale
Encore Books! - the Bella Vista Library’s used-book store - has announced a special price of 25 cents each for books on tape for a limited time.
Tourney for Titles golfers
Golfers who played in the Tourney for Titles on Sept. 19 can stop by the Bella Vista Library’s front desk to pick up photos taken during the event. The photos are provided free of charge by Ruth Hatcher.
First Saturday for Kids
Children ages 5-12 are invited to join in the fun Saturday, Nov. 7, at 10:30 a.m. in the library for stories and crafts.
Bedtime Stories for Moms
Young moms are invited to join this group, which will meet in the library Nov. 14 at 10 a.m. to discuss “Reading Lolita in Tehran: A Memoir in Books,” by Azar Nafisi. Refreshments will be provided.
Preschool Story Time
Miss Kathryn and her storytellers are back every Friday at 9:30 a.m. in the Bella VistaLibrary.
Readers are needed. Anyone interested in volunteering is asked to call 855-1753.
Book donations
The Friends of the Library need gently-read books and will box and pick up donations at no charge. Call Susan at 876-1706 to schedule a pickup date.
License plates available
Decorative front license plates displaying the city of Bella Vista logo are for sale at the Bella Vista Library, Arvest Bank at Town Center, Allen’s Foods, Signature Bank and the Property Owners Association office. Each durable polyethylene plate costs $8, with proceeds benefiting the library.
Exhibits
This month’s exhibits include original works by the Bella Vista Photography Club. Anyone interested in displaying a collection should contact Cathy at 876-7316.
Floral arrangement
October’s arrangement was designed by Mary Stancombe. Each month, a member of theBella Vista Garden Club creates an original floral design to be displayed for patrons’ enjoyment.
Adopt-a-Book
By adopting a book, a person will be helping the library provide bestsellers and children’s books to all its patrons. A personalized bookplate will be placed in each book.
A list of adult and children’s books awaiting adoption is posted in the library.
Monthly newsletter
Free copies of “Dickens Place Doin’s” are available in the library, as well as at Branchwood Recreation Center, Property Owners Association offices, Riordan Hall and Arvest Bank in Town Center.
Hours of operation
Regular hours are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, with extended hours until 8 p.m. Monday and Wednesday.

Exhibit showcases illustrators’ work
BENTONVILLE - “Inspired by Place: The Illustrations of Cara Armstrong and Ard Hoyt,” the latest exhibition at Crystal Bridges at the Massey, presents artwork by two children’s book illustrators.
The exhibition launches at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 5, with a panel discussion on the creative process featuring both artists and led by Chris Crosman, chief curator at Crystal Bridges. This free event will take place in the Walmart Community Room at the Bentonville Public Library, 405 S. Main St., and is best suited for teens and adults. No registration is required.
A public opening will follow from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Massey, Crystal Bridges’ temporary gallery space, located at 125 W. Center in downtown Bentonville. The reception will include a book sale and signing courtesy of Borders bookstore.

BENTONVILLE - Applications to participate in one of the largest daytime parades in the state are now available.
The 2009 Bentonville Winter Wonderland Parade will be held Dec. 5 at 11 a.m. This year’s theme is “Songs of the Holidays.”
Organizers encourage schools, businesses, civic groups and churches to participate. Entry forms can be found online at www.downtown bentonville.org/events or by calling 254-0254. Completed applications are due Nov. 18.
Downtown Bentonville Inc. is also looking for volunteer groups to help coordinate load-in and loadout, as well as be onroute parade marshals the day of the event.
In addition, DBI has created a Bentonville School Float Scholarship Fund to help the schools create floats. A business or individual can donate any amount to the fund, which will be distributed equitably to each participating Bentonville school. A small portion of the funds will be used to help DBI produce the parade.
Contact the organization by Nov. 18 to make a contribution to the scholarship fund.

60thWedding AnniversaryTed & Beth Olson married October 29, 1949
October 29 will mark 60 years of marriage for Ted and Beth Olson of Bella Vista.
The milestone was celebrated for six days in mid-June, when all 17 of their family members came together at the Olsons’ Lake Ann home to celebrate three birthdays and the parents’ anniversary.
The Olsons moved from Kansas City, Mo., to Bella Vista in 1989.
Family members attending the June celebration were daughter JoAnn Helweg, husband Lionel and their two daughters from Toledo, Ohio; grandson Dr. Nathan Helweg, wife Mia and their three children from Grand Rapids, Mich.; son Bill Olson, wife Abby Olson and their two children from Kansas City, Mo.; and son James Olson of Bella Vista.
