Meetings on city sales tax slated

— Residents can ask questions of city officials about the upcoming sales tax vote at four public and 27 small group meetings.

The meetings are scheduled for residents to learn about the sales tax - why it is needed and how the city made that determination.

Bella Vista voters will cast their ballots yea or nay on the 1 cent tax Dec. 8.

Alderman Doug Farner is heading a steering committee, consisting of four residents and Alderwoman Arline Hutchinson. Theywill be giving a brief history of the Operational Planning Committee that determined the police and fire department needs and how to fund the necessary expansion.

Farner, Mayor Frank Anderson,committee members and Bella Vista Police Chief Ken Farmer and Fire Department Chief Steve Sims will attend the public meetings to answer questions.

◊Nov. 11 at Metfield Club House starting at 3 p.m.

◊ Nov. 18 at the Loch Lomond Yacht Club, beginning at 3:30 p.m.

◊Dec. 1 at the Highlands Crossing, start time 6:30 p.m.

◊Dec. 2 at Riordan Hall, beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Farner said they are funding the meetings through donations only; city funds are not being used.

Twenty seven additional meetings have been scheduled at local churches, clubs and organizations before the election.

Flyers with frequently asked questions are available in City Hall at Town Center East and The Weekly Vista offices at Town Center West.

The Plaza hosting wine and cheese party

The Plaza at Highlands Crossing will host a Turning Leaf wine and cheese party Wednesday, Nov. 4, from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m.

The event is open to anyone, particularly seniorsaged 55 and above, who are interested in learning more about the senior housing cooperative.
