— Shooters beware: Jerry Moyer is a fierce competitor.

The Bella Vista resident continued his climb to becoming a masterclass shooter by dominating at the NRA Classic from Sept. 4-6. The event was hosted by the Ozark Shooters Sports Complex near Branson, Mo.

Moyer went into the competition with class A status and six points toward AA class. He only needed 10 points total to move up.

He won six of sevenevents to earn more than enough points to advance to AA class in the National Sporting Clays Association. He will join the master class with just one more move - an accomplishment that will require 16 points.

Competitors earn points, or punches, by beating out other shooters in their respective classes. A shooter must beat at least three people to earn one point, 10 people to earn two points and 15 or more people to receive four points.

The points can be won in five events - 12-gauge, 20-gauge, 28-gauge, .410-gauge andthe main event.

Moyer received a total of 17 points at the Missouri shoot.

On Sept. 19, he entered a match in Pea Ridge and won the high overall score by hitting 99 out of 100 targets.

The Bella Vistan has been competing for less than a year, but he is ready to share his love of the sport with others. He planned to attend a fourday, level 1 instructor course with the NSCA in October at Ozark Shooters. Upon completing the course, he will be able to share his knowledge with new and experienced shooters alike.
