LITTLE ROCK — People needing assistance with the activities of daily living can turn to Home Care Professionals of Arkansas Inc.

The business providesservices for people who are sick, disabled, returning from a hospital stay or no longer able to cope with living alone.

"A professional caregiver is often the difference between a life of independence and dignity or one of mere survival," the company's Web site states.

Home Care Professionals can provide general services, such as assistance with mobility, meal preparation, grocery shopping and lighthousekeeping.

Other services include help with laundry, writing tasks, reminders to take medication and socialization.

A 24-hour live-in service is also available.

A client interview process helps the company determine medical needs to lifestyle habits to provide customized care.

The cost of the services depends on the level of care and the amount of time needed for the tasks. The more hours used, the less the cost per hour.

Cecile Lewis, along with co-owner Linda Shay, has been in business for 16 years. Lewis has a business background and "saw the necessity" of a business likethis, she said.

Corporate headquarters are located in Sheridan, Ark., with several branch offices, including Fayetteville.

Ten employees work with 300 caregivers, who are independent contractors. A complete background check, including a police report, is completed on all caregivers.

Lewis said their services are covered through many long-term care insurance companies but not by Medicare. Her business also works with veterans' organizations.
