— Earl Harvey Anderson, 90, of Woodstown, N.J., formerly of Bella Vista, died Friday, July 24, 2009, at Friends Village in Woodstown, N.J. He was born Oct. 13, 1918, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Paul I. Anderson and Eve M. Anderson.

He grew up in Des Moines, Iowa, and received a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from Iowa State University in 1940. He married Hester E. Kunkel on June 7, 1942, in Albion, Neb. He received a Master of Business Administration degree and a doctorate from the University of Nebraska.

He was a World War II veteran, having served as a captain in the Transportation Corps.

He and his wife retired to Bella Vista in 1985.

He was a member of the Community Church of Bella Vista.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Hester Anderson.

Survivors include a daughter, Susan Garrison of Pittsgrove, N.J.; three sons, Steven E. Anderson of Cave Creek, Ariz., Paul L. Anderson of Apple Valley, Minn., and Bruce "Andy" W. Anderson of Omaha, Neb.; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Cremation arrangements were by Layton Funeral Home of Woodstown.

John H. Erickson

John H. Erickson, 79, of Bella Vista, died Sunday, Sept. 6, 2009, at the Mercy Medical Center, Rogers. He was born July 14, 1930 in Madison, Wis., to John H. Erickson and Lilly Sophia Berglund Erickson.

He was raised and educated in Wisconsin and he attended the University of Wisconsin. John served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict.

He married Mary Ellen Getzinger on August 18, 1956 in Madison, Wisconsin. He was employed by Montgomery Wards for 33 years. He retired in 1990 and they moved to Bella Vista in 1995. He enjoyed woodworking and golfing.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Ina Erickson Meehan; and sisters, Eugenia Marans and Ina Marlow.

John is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary of Bella Vista; son Jeffrey H. Erickson and his wife, Maureen of Middleton, Wis.; sister, Leona Davis and her husband, Donald of Belvedere, Calif.; and grandchildren, Scott Meehan, Mary Meehan, Nick Erickson, and Leah Erickson.

No local services areplanned. Arrangements are by the Bella Vista Funeral Home & Crematory.

Charles A.

"Chuck" Gailliot

Charles A. "Chuck" Gailliot, 90, of Bella Vista, died Sunday Aug. 30, 2009, at Circle of Life Hospice in Springdale.

He was born Sept. 27, 1918 in Pittsburgh, Pa., one of eight children to Alex and Rose Gailliot.

Chuck was called into the service during the first draft and served five years in the U.S. Army, attaining the rank of captain.

He was stationed in France with the Signal Corps during World War II.

He was a life member of the Military Officer's Association of America.

He worked in office management for Hercules Inc., in Wilmington, Del., and Joplin, Mo. He retired from Hercules in 1977 after 31 years of service.

Chuck and Marylyn moved to Bella Vista in 1983, having bought property there in 1968. They were very active in various golf associations and groups in Bella Vista. Chuck served as president of the 18-Hole Men's Golf Association, later as president of the 9-Hole Men's Golf Association and served on the Board of the Property Owners Association Golf Committee. He was an instructor of the AARP Driver's Safety Program in Bella Vista for 22 years.

He performed with the Sophisticated Ladies Plus tap dancers as one of the male participants making up the "Plus" portion of the Bella Vista tap dance group.

Chuck was a member of the Unity Church of the Ozarks. He and Marylyn led a Unity study group for many years.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Marylyn Gailliot, of Bella Vista; a sister, Rosemary Furrer of West Virginia; a cherished nephew, Greg Dorsett, his wife, Joni, and son, Scott of Whitehall, Mich.

A memorial service was held Sept. 4 at the Mildred B. Cooper Memorial Chapel in Bella Vista.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Bella Vista Funeral Home & Crematory.

Dale Karl Luther

Dale Karl Luther, 86, of Bella Vista, died Monday, Sept. 7, 2009 at Concordia Care Center in Bella Vista. He was born on Feb. 2, 1923, in Hooper, Neb., to Karl Luther and Emma (Moseman) Luther.

He served in the United States Army Air Corp during World War II. He was a lifetime member of ex-POW; VFW; DAV: and University of Nebraska Alumni Association.

He was a former County Extension Agent, banker, insurance agent; manager of Buffalo County, Neb., Fairgrounds and fair board member for 47 years. He held leadership positions in many organizations.

He moved to Bella Vista in 1996 from Kearney, Neb.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

He is survived by his wife, Sylvia of Bella Vista; daughter Linda L. McVittie of Gravette; brother Wayne Luther of Hooper, Neb.; and grandchild Erin Goonery and husband Alan of Kinnegad, Ireland.

No services are planned.

Janelle Ruth Penner, 70, of Bella Vista, died Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2009, at her home. She was born on Feb. 16, 1939, in Hochatown, Okla., to J. D. Clinton and Mamie Murphy Clinton.

She moved to Bella Vista 10 years ago from Little Rock.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and husband Deryle.

She is survived by one son, Duane Penner of Lowell; brother, Charles Clinton of Arcadia, Calif.; sisters Marvena Shelley of Lawton, Okla., Bea Smith of De Queen, Inez Hudson of Oklahoma City, Pat Roberts, of Texarkana, Nelda Coulter of Sherwood; grandsons Madison F. Penner and James D. Penner; nine nieces and nephews.

No local services are planned. Final resting place will be in De Queen.

Rickabaugh

Raymond E. Rickabaugh, 84, of Bella Vista, Arkansas died Wednesday, September 9, 2009 in Rogers, Arkansas. Mr. Rickabaugh was born on June 28, 1925 in Council Bluffs, Iowa to the late Claude and Maude Rickabaugh.

He was a retired supervisor of the Omaha Public Power District.

He was a member of the Presbyterian Church of BellaVista.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Shirley Jean Rowley Rickabaugh andson, Larry Dale Rickabaugh.

He is survived by his wife Merle Rickabaugh of Bella Vista; daughters Nancy K. Smith and husband, Scott of Apple Valley, Calif., Janice L. Cain and husband, Jerry of Palm Coast, Fla.; step-son David Flanagan and wife, Diana of Abilene; brother Gerald Rickabaugh and wife of Omaha, Neb.., sister Marjorie Webster and husband of Omaha; five grandchildren, three step-grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. .

Internment was Sept. 12 at the Bella Vista Cemetery.

A memorial service was held that day at the Presbyterian Church of Bella Vista, with the Rev. Dennis Ritchie officiating.
