Thanksgiving is a wonderful time of the year. Most of us will get with family and friends and have a delicious meal. We begin thinking about Christmas and a new year that will soon be upon us.

A friend of mine was coming to a meeting in a large room with several people in it. As he came in, he said he had not been feeling well and would not sit close to anyone. I jokingly said that was a good idea and that we all love him, but we wanted to do it from a distance.

As I was coming to work one day last week, I ran into my neighbor. His name is Eli, and he is 5 years old. He was at the bus stop getting ready for his first day in kindergarten. I couldn't help but think about the transition taking place in his life. Fortunately, his dad was with him as they waited on the bus. I know that was a great source of comfort for Eli. What a perfect picture for us. When we begin a new phase in our life, our heavenly Father is always with us. The Scriptures promise that he will never leave us or forsake us. He is always there to bring us the comfort and assurance we need. I couldn't help but think, "What is going through Eli's mind as he begins his new adventure?

The name of the cologne is True Religion, according to the ad in the newspaper. I thought I might buy some and see what True Religion smells like. It was expensive, but so is true religion. The question came to my mind after I saw the advertisement, what is true religion ? That is a question we should all ponder. What is religion supposed to do in our lives? How can we know we are properly related to God? What is genuine Christian service?

There is an old story about a grandfather telling his grandson of the battle that goes on in each of us. The grandfather says, "My son, the battle is between two wolves inside all of us. One is evil. This wolf represents anger, envy, jealously, regret, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority and ego. "The other wolf is good. This wolf represents joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith."

A dip in a pool leaves lasting impression

Occasionally, God lets you have a very uplifting spiritual experience. It can happen anywhere. Moses had one in the desert when he saw the burning bush. The apostle Paul had one when he was on the road to Damascus. When it happens, it makes a lasting impression on you. I had one the other day at the Kingsdale Pool. I was there to baptize a young lady who recently joined our church. There were several people in the pool. As I began the service, some of the folks asked if they could come over and watch.
